(I received an ARC for this book)

Before you start this, I recommend reading the series prequel novella, False Start. While it’s not necessary, it’s Lee and Shayna’s first chance. That’s where I connected with these characters, where I instantly needed more of their story. This takes place eight years later. Their first chance left Lee full of regret, and Shayna carrying a grudge. So what happens when she takes a job as an athletic trainer on his football team? Well, the groveling begins. Lee has been waiting years for this moment. However, Shayna has spent that time avoiding it. There’s no avoiding him anymore! Lee tries, and tries, and tries. He just wants Shayna to hear him, understand him. He’s not even asking for forgiveness anymore! But they need some kind of friendly comradery if they’re going to be working together. She continues to go out of her way to give him the cold shoulder, and yet, all he’s done is be kind. Finally, she throws up the white flag. Very quickly, they both admit that the chemistry is still there and it doesn’t take long for the tension to snap again. There’s too much on the line for it to become what they actually want. They’re on borrowed time. It broke my heart that their only options were having each other and losing everything else, or losing each other. But Lee hasn’t waited all this time just to lose her again, and his grand gesture proves that. The best grand gestures in any sports romance, aside from involving the whole team in it, is the blatant decision to choose love over team. Because at the end of the day, Lee’s love for Shayna trumps everything else. The introduction to Brady’s book?! I am SO ready for more of this team!
