Blacktop Wasteland by S.A. Cosby
5.0

This book is phenomenal. It is heist story for auto nerds a la The Fast and the Furious, but it also holds up as a literary novel. The protagonist, Beauregard, idolizes his father and can't bring himself to part with the car his father left him, but he is also trying not to be the monster that his father could be. He is a father himself and trying to be a better one than his father, but he is struggling to stay afloat financially without committing crimes. Ronnie needs a driver for the ultimate heist job, the job that should set them up to never have to do another job again. Can Beau do just one more job and hang it up to focus on being a good dad? Cosby eloquently explores these questions between action-packed fights and chases, and it is totally awesome.
