Last Summer by Holly Chamberlin

2.0

I've read other books by Holly Chamberlin and was looking forward to this novel but was sadly disappointed. This follows Rosie whom is betrayed by her best friend Meg to the bullies that torment her and things go from bad to worse and end result is Rosie withdrawing from school. The side story is their mothers whom also are at odds after the betrayal.

As with other reviewers, there are a lot of secrets I could understand this kind of hurt and reaction from but the secret that Meg tells the bullies really was NOT that big of a deal. I get that it is but NOT to the extent that Rosie takes it to. I honestly kept expecting it to actually be something else and that was just the beginning but I was wrong. I also expected the cutting story to be further fleshed out, there isn't really a follow up to how her parents found out. There also isn't ever really a story about when/how it all came to a head to get to the point where Rosie dropped out of school.

Bullying is no joke and what happened to Rosie is terrible. My skin crawled when the girls cornered her and cut her hair but I think that it was a bit unrealistic and I wish that things were thought out a bit more.
