Cien años de soledad by Gabriel García Márquez

I'll start with maybe the obvious: this is not a book for everyone.

This book is one of the most heavy representatives of magical realism and you can feel that genre in every word of the book. Even for many latinamerican folks, this is not enjoyable and it's fine. Please don't shit on anyone for not reading/liking it, and don't hate the book because you didn't liked/finished it.

Now, for my opinion. I love this book. Is not an easy read and I can't say that every part of it had me super excited, but I LOVE this story. The way magical realism is imbedded in each part of the story made me feel strong for the many characters, it made my imagination fly and it made me feel so many emotions for all the people in Macondo as well as Macondo in itself, which is something kind of unique, but not as uncommon in this genre (like in Pedro Páramo, by Juan Rulfo). Macondo is like a living character and if part of everyone's lives, to the point that anything can happen and you're so okay with it, because is believable; the construction of this world is on point. I love how you watch this family generation unfolds from the beginning to the end and even with how complex the family tree is, for me is still enjoyable (even though I need a printed family tree to not get lost, haha).

I remember finishing the book for the first time, going to my parents bedroom and rambling about how amazing it was, and then running upstairs to turn on my computer to connect to msn, just to tell my friends how much I loved it. I don't re read it too much, because it takes me to Macondo and, well, I have a life to live, but when I return to Macondo is always such a wonderful experience that I have no shame in saying that this is, for me, my favourite book. 5/5, love it so much.
