A Well-Tempered Heart
by Jan-Philipp Sendker
I hadn't read 'The Art of Hearing Heartbeats' and had no trouble entering the story here. Beginning in New York with Julia hearing a voice, the novel certainly did not unfold as I expected it to! Learning about Julia, and her brother, U Ba, was special. The tale they pursue and uncover takes you back to an earlier time, but more than that imparts another way of looking at the world, and yourself.
"Intuition is the incorruptable memory of our experiences. We have only to listen to what it tells us. [...] It does not always speak plainly. Or it tells us things we don't want to hear. That does make them untrue."
