Volume 5 is the start of the Mage exams and you quickly learn how hardcore it’s going to be. I loved all of the new characters and the new dynamics that got introduced with this one. Seeing how Frieren tackled the first challenge was really satisfying, and I’m rooting for her until the end. (Okay okay I watched the anime ages ago so I know how the exams end, but still. Go Frieren and Fern! Woo!)
