Unpopular opinion ahoy! This book started really well, straight into it - major Texas Chainsaw/Devils Rejects vibes but with a more personal approach. It was great to see this type of story told with an empathetic edge. However, despite the fact that the writing is great, the characters were fully brought to life and the horror concepts - I was bored. I cannot actually fault much with this book other than it being predictable and pretty tame (I was under the impression it was particularly brutal? Time for some self reflection perhaps!) but I just wasn’t very engaged with it and have no idea why. Perhaps it was too familiar a story?
