decided to choose a novella to start off october, and i was not disappointed. novellas are always fun, and i get excited to see how the author is going to fit an entire story in just a little over 100 pages. m. l. rio is definitely a favorite author of mine, so i went in knowing i was more likely than not going to enjoy this book. i loved the concept of the story taking place over one evening (not even a full 12 hours), and i think m. l. rio did a good job with the pacing and picking which details to include and which could be left out. the Anchorites were the perfect friend (?) group for this story, and i loved how each character really felt like their own person. ngl i got nervous for hannah at the end, but i’m pretty pleased with how everything turned out. i would love to see m. l. rio do more novellas or even a short story collection!
