I wasn't sure what to expect, but this really blew me away. The blurb makes it sound zany, and it is a little, but the characters are extremely endearing and grounded and the conflicts small-scale and real. I loved the mundane time Thorpe spends with Margo and her son - Bodhi felt like a real character in the book, when babies and toddlers so often end up as flat plot devices. It is formally unusual as well, switching from first to third person in a way that adds a lot of depth to Margo as a character. The ending felt a little bit neat, but I was rooting for everyone so hard it was tough to care.
Graphic: Addiction
Moderate: Abandonment
Abandonment is not the right term, but there is an ongoing custody battle and a scene where the MC is afraid her child will be taken away from her by CPS.
