Very darling story. Love older and wiser protagonists. What I liked about their story was that they still had a lot of story left in them precisely because they'd lived as long as they had (they're not nonagenarians, but they are north of middle age, and in today's world where youth is the elixir, that probably feels like they might as well be that old).

I liked the realistic random kindnesses as well as the predictable crowds. I liked getting snippets of the strangers' lives, and some of them, especially the Slovakian doctor, would've been nice to expand on or even create a tangent book upon. Seemed like all the people he met represented a piece of his past, a piece of his closed-hearted soul, a piece of his reconciliation.

Queenie was so tragic. She simultaneous carried the burden of being an inspiration and the symbol of atonement, all while in hospice. I was excited to see she gets her own story in the second book in this series. I really must know what happened to her after she left the brewery!

Story was great, but I think the writing was a bit boring. Then again, that might've been intentional to convey the pace of his trek. Let's see what Queenie's life was all about in the second book!
