Bloodchild and Other Stories by Octavia E. Butler

4.0

Octavia Butler's succinctness partly comes from her rich imagination - that with very few and necessary words she could still manage to create a stunningly bizarre world, and that there is no need for her to be redundant to disguise the dearth of originality. Octavia Butler seems extraordinarily good at coming up with situations and how those situations may evolve. Bloodchild, The Evening the Morning and the Night, Speech Sounds were the most memorable stories for me and Bloodchild is the most perfect one of the three.

My ratings for each story:
- 5 stars: Bloodchild, Speech Sounds
- 4 stars: The Evening and the Morning and the Night
- 3.5 stars: Amnesty (with a touch of similarity to Bloodchild), The Book of Martha
- 3 stars: Near of Kin
