i've missed the kate daniels world so much. reading this book felt like coming home. i definitely don't think it can stand alone; so much of the tension and the reveals in the book are dependent upon knowing the characters from the first series. it was interesting and painful at times to read at how some of these characters ended up (and a certain crackship of mine became canon and i was overjoyed lmao) but i still loved reading all of it. in itself, i do think this book suffered from being the first book in a sequel series and it needed to do a lot of heavy lifting re: exposition and establishing relationships. i don't think the plot was as tightly done as the KD series, but it did set up the major arc of this new one and i cannot wait to find out what happens next.
