Unnecessarily graphic and explicit to the point of sensationalism. It does an amazing job of bringing the reader into the mind of a twisted narrator, but ultimately the novelty of this discomfort wears off quickly. None of the characters are sympathetic or fully realised, and I couldn't wait to finish it just so I didn't have to read it any more.
