The Midnight Dance by Nikki Katz

While I enjoyed the writing style in this book very much both the plot and character development seemed to fall a little flat overall.

While the plot was quite suspenseful at times, it always seemed to be leading up to plot twists that should have been there but weren't. This made the story feel too predictable for me to be really called a thriller. The only REALLY unsettling/uncomfortable thing for me was Masters behaviour towards the girls and the implications the author made about their relationship.

Furthermore, I just didn't get the point of those random chapters trying to explain why Master is the way he is because for me there were way too little of them and the information we got did not really lead to me solving the mystery of the Master's true motivation to run such a ballet school.

The characters in this story were not layered enough for me to really be rooting for them. Especially, the characterization (or lack thereof) of Master and Penny bothered me the most. For me, essential mysteries around Master weren't sufficiently resolved to leave me satisfied with the book.

Nevertheless, overall a quite enjoyable book with a lot of unused potential.
