My first book from the legendary Don, and definitely an interesting one.

Throughout, I found myself both intensely captivated by the descriptions of the generic, banal world Jack and his family live in, and drained by it. Definitely takes the cake in terms of laying the foundation of postmodern writing -- the elements of consumerism, entertainment, our (American) avoidance of death, all that good stuff, is very openly on display here.

The rich descriptions of the numbing sensations of violence, the general banter permeating their strange family web, the discussions on death -- White Noise offers many beautiful, touching moments, with many of them undoubtedly sailing over my head, if I had to guess.

All of these experiences are conveyed in a contrasted style, stark and to-the-point. I can't say it does it for me at all times, but regardless it was fascinating to read something that radiates a sense of influence. In this sense, it felt dated at times in my eyes, but as I said, someone's gotta do it first!
