Saga #1 by Brian K. Vaughan

3.0

So this is another "floppy." There are only two issues out of this comic as far as I know. Saga is written by Brian K. Vaughn, writer of the popular Vertigo title Y: The Last Man. This, to me, looks like it has more potential than that one did, though. I found Y was "accessible" in the ways that don't necessarily signify things are going to be good. The thing about Y was it had a decent plot, the same way tons of stories do, but its execution was terrible. It had the most boring artwork and the most plain writing I'd seen in a comic, since Fables. And, honestly, I followed Fables for a looooong time before I came to that conclusion (plus, in contrast, Fables has a different artist work on the covers and those are always gorgeous. Also, overall it was actually a better story).

This is completely off topic. My point is that Saga has interesting art, a plotline that is sort of scattered but kind of cool in the way that things like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Moonshadow were, but the writing is more direct and less fanciful (the way Brian tends to write). Character development is .. pretty much nil after two issues, but hopefully he'll build up on that.
