The Reaper and the Cop by Mina Carter

5.0

Wait?! I need MORE!

Seriously, I loved this short like burning! There is nothing more appealing to me in a paranormal read than a sexy "other" female who can kick major tail! Laney is a Reaper -as in, an actual descendant of The Grim Reaper himself- and she literally wipes the floor with anything that gets in her way from evil humans to werewolves. She's funny, spunky, and this tiny slip of a thing who kept me on my toes all the way through the work.

Troy Regan is the human detective who spots Laney while she's out hunting souls to reap; he started out being a bit of scenery in the place to her, but wow does he come alive! That sounds so ironic considering she deals in death except it's totally true! Troy made this story come alive for me. His fascination with Laney mirrored by own. His acceptance of the supernatural world that was infesting the quiet little town he'd come to settle down in was so well-written that I found him a compelling, convincing resident of Liberty. His desire for her was enough that he wanted to protect her yet his interest in her led him to trust her to handle herself which I really appreciated.

Some people want to see the hero save the girl all the time.

I'm not one of those people.

Seeing Troy accept that Laney was a powerful force to be reckoned with in her own right was wonderful to me.

I only wish there was more of it! That's my only complaint! I loved it all the way through and I hope that Mina Carter gets a follow-up out soon!
