Usually when I read books about an anti-hero, I expect to see some nuance on what is "goodness" or "badness", but this book doesn't deliver on that front. It is surprisingly without nuance. The villain knows he is a villain, and is purposefully "bad" and vise versa with the heroes. However, there are heavy themes of purpose in this book. It asks: Why are we here and are we meant to be one thing or another? The main character has questionable motivations, to say the least, and by that I mean that they were not proportional at all to the decisions he made. Having said all this, I enjoyed this book, and I would read character studies on the other characters if they were made.
