The book follows Joan Goodwin, a physics and astronomy professor who joined NASA’s Space Shuttle program in the 1980s. As she forms bonds with her crew and experiences a fateful mission, she begins to believe her journey has a greater purpose. While the story was decent, the synopsis revealed too much, limiting the element of discovery. Joan’s character felt less dynamic compared to other Taylor Jenkins Reid protagonists, and the book leaned more on exposition than immersion. The family dynamics—especially Joan’s relationship with her niece, Francis—were a highlight, while the astronomy content felt less engaging. Overall, a solid read.
