Wonder Woman, Volume 1: Blood by Brian Azzarello
4.0

I really like it more than I thought I would. I'll have to write a fuller review later.

REVIEW:

Good:
Cliff Chiang's art is gorgeous. The colorist makes everything pop and the inker mixes dark pages and stories well with daylight scenes. The mythological creatures and Gods have interesting designs that mix the fantastical with the frightening. Tony Akins does a good job of continuing that look with a younger and cleaner style.

Bad:
Not a fan of Azzarello's writing. He tends to be too dark for edginess's sake for my tastes. Wonder Woman is in the background of her own title. He's robbed her of her extraordinary birth story and makes her Zeus's daughter. It then becomes Percy Jackson for adults. Wonder Woman protects a woman pregnant with Zeus's child from Hera and Apollo's plotting. She feuds with her mother Hippolyta over her new origin before Hera attacks, but mostly she's just a bodyguard. She really doesn't do any thing interesting in "man's world" except go to a small punk concert (boring because it doesn't really give her characterization any depth) and fight to protect the mother of a demigod in utero. She never interacts with any non-Gods, demigods, or Amazons except for Zeus's latest baby momma.
