Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

5.0

Bridge to Terabithia may have some ideas that are outmoded, particularly in relation to familial abuse and loyalty, but there are many more things that it is valuable for: an examination of co-existence of the religious and the atheistic and, more importantly, an excellent guide for teaching children how to deal with grief.

Sensitive readers may find themselves weeping for the last forty or so pages of this book - almost a third of its entire length. Thirty odd years later, Bridge to Terabithia is affecting. It depicts a world that will be alien to many modern children, but there's a degree of awful universality to it that makes it almost essential reading.
