Rafael Lopez is a grumpy single dad who has a hard time opening up to people. He tries to keep his emotions in control and his circle small, it isn't until he hires Ellie as his son's nanny that he really starts to reflect on where his life is going and deciding if a life of solitude is really one he wants for the rest of his life.

Ellie Sinclair is an aspiring musician, she moved back to Lake Wisteria after her music was stolen by a former friend. She and Rafael cross paths again when she becomes Nico's music teacher and then she becomes his nanny. Ellie is a carefree individual with many hopes and dreams and she starts wondering if she wants her life to solely be known as "Nico's nanny" or if the life of song writing is worth giving another shot

Talk about the slowest of slowburns! Their chemistry and tension is something you feel all throughout the story, I love what Asher does with making these characters feel like people instead of having them be 2D. I loved the care she took in talking about mental health once again, how real the descriptions felt instead of falling into similar patterns of stigmatizing media. I loved the thought and care when talking about triggering topics. Rafael felt really relatable to me, having been burned in a past toxic relationship and finding the idea of being that vulnerable again scary, I felt like his thought process was very real, I loved how he was mending his relationship with his son, how real that felt as well. How it didn't feel like there weren't any struggles because they have so much money, how we saw just how much Hillary was effecting Nico, and just how hard Rafael was fighting for him. Ellie's personal struggles also felt very close to home, and it's always a bittersweet feeling seeing yourself in characters. But I thought their story, as slow and long as it was, was 100% necessary to fully understand them. All in all I loved this book, and I would 100% recommend this again and again.
