Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection by Junji Ito

4.0

Loved [b:Uzumaki|17837762|Uzumaki|Junji Ito|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1476677569l/17837762._SX50_.jpg|78186726] and wanted to read another work by Ito for October. My brother recommended this one. My takeaway is, basically: does Ito ever miss? Of course some of these stories were more suited to my tastes than others, but it's a super strong collection front to back. My favourites were "Library Vision" and "Earthbound."

I love Ito's brand of horror. I love how he doesn't over-explain any of his worldbuilding, and I love how his stories are so easy to suspend your disbelief with and enjoy. Some of the stories in this collection deal with heavy things like sexual assault and eating disorders, but never in a way that felt exploitative, like a lot of other horror.

I think I'm going to read [b:Shiver: Selected Stories|34852851|Shiver Selected Stories|Junji Ito|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1505139005l/34852851._SX50_.jpg|60101714] soon, because I kind of can't get enough of Ito's horror.
