The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Did not finish book.
3.0
I wanted to like this book a lot because it seemed SO right up my alley. Needless to say, I got it on audiobook and while the first hour or so was gorgeous and evocative (Ta-Nehisi Coates has the most beautiful way with prose), I quickly grew bored after that. I think Coates' stylistic skill is best suited for non-fiction because while initially really captivating, things quickly felt underwhelming and slow. It feels terrible to say given the subject matter but it just wasn't gripping me in the way I thought it would, and the way I wished it did. I DNF'd it about halfway through, which I really dislike doing, but it's a testament to how little I wanted to continue this unfortunately. :( Rating is for how beautiful the writing is.
