This was a well-researched account that describes not only the circumstances of the Tulsa Race Massacre, but also its aftermath. When I first learned about the Greenwood District a few years ago, I heard about its destruction. This book helped me to understand that the story of Greenwood didn’t end there. In the decades since, the community has continued to fight to preserve itself and for the rights of Black people. The author clearly spent a significant amount of time researching Greenwood and hearing firsthand accounts of its history from longterm residents and descendants of the massacre survivors. This is an important book I’d recommend to anyone with an interest in understanding American history and how we got to where we are today.
