Whispers of the Deep
by Emma Hamm
I loved the start of this. The world-building, the characters, the deep-fueled hate but need to help each other. The writing had lovely moments mixed in, which is my preferred style, and there were very few errors that I noticed.
The middle was great too, though a little slower.
The end was... not for me. I appreciate that we were asked to suspend belief, though I though Emma Hamm did a wonderful job up to this point making things work in her world. I did not appreciate the changes at the end, and how it was more just an "accept it because it's not understood." I would even have preferred some magical change instead of this "don't question it" approach.
In addition,Mira being ignored for two weeks as she recovered from a life threatening injury, where someone that hated her not only a day prior was tasked with breathing for her? No. It was clear he didn't care for her, and I cannot stand when MMCs only have to interact with women once they no longer need support. He can go right in the bin. At this point, I was done with them.
