The Arrival by Shaun Tan

5.0

Shaun Tan is an absolute genius of a graphic novelist. What this short graphic novel lacks in color and words, it more than makes up for in gorgeous illustrations which conveys the story with such emotion and subtlety. The unfamiliar terrain, animals and even food objects equate beautifully to what an newcomer would find strange in a foreign land. Each vignette portrays the characters' struggles and each wide panorama fills you with the same awe, vastness and fear that would be inherent in the voyage of immigration.
