⁉️SPOILERS⁉️

I did feel a bit disappointed by this book compared to the first two, not gonna lie.

First thing that bothered me was the fact that this is supposed to be a romance, but we completely miss the actual falling in love. Sure they were infatuated by each other, but not yet in love, then we just get serval time jumps with basically “this and that happened”. Why not actually show readers the falling in love? At the point where we get to present day, I wasn’t convinced of the love between Dante and Amara. They seemed more like fuck buddies, than a couple secretly in love, fighting to be together.

Dante was very sweet and respectful of Amara’s boundaries. They talked some. But over all Amara was kept in the dark about everything, up to Dante’s father dying.

To me Amara seemed like a completely different character from the previous books. To me there was no growth. For neither Dante and Amara. The only way they both grew was that they literally grew up. Amara only changed from the sweet girl to (obviously) traumatized adult. Dante pretty much stayed the same, cool, calculated gentleman, the prince of the outfit.
The lovey dovey dialogue to me was a bit cliche and cringe. The whole “my king and my queen” thing seemed a bit childish but that’s just my opinion. Also I didn’t like how they both tried to be poetic at times it wasn’t necessary. Why are you trying to poetically explain to a bad guy why children don’t have to turn out like their parents?

Amara seemed to do a lot of things on the whim it seemed. She up and left, but when she wakes up with Dante in between her legs she almost immediately forgives him.

One thing that also bothered me was that we were almost left with more questions than answers. The ending seemed dissatisfying. I don’t know if I missed something or if I just didn’t get it, but who was the boy in the prologue? The man? Was it Xander? The shadowman? I have no idea. Every new character was related to one of the main characters. Why? MrX. was found but it didn’t feel significant, just a way to explain how they got their own spy into the Syndicate. Nerea being a bad guy also didn’t feel like a huge betrayal of any kind, she wasn’t around much, we only see glimpses of her throughout the book and we only get told Amara and Nerea tried to formep a bond. I kind hoped the spy would’ve been Vinny, that would have been a real gut punch. Why did every home Dante’s brother go to get set on fire? Who set the fires? Why? There was really no new information about the Syndicate, or the Shadowman.
So at the end it did feel like a whole punch of nothing happened.

I did enjoy reading this book, but the overall story/plot/romance was a let down.
