A Little Too Late by Sarina Bowen

4.0

I was so intrigued by this series and the backstory of these characters, and Sarina Bowen books always leave my heart full. A Little Too Late is a great start to his multi-author series. Winter vibes, a touching story, healing and hope and the power of community. This second chance romance has all the feels and lots of swoons- a great standalone and a beautiful world builder for the Madigan Mountain world.

Our hero, workaholic Carlifornian Reed, hasn’t been home in a long time- and by design. But home for the first time in ages, he finds himself crossing paths with his former love Ava in the place he least expects it- his father’s office. These two have a lot of history to unpack, but time has changed them, and despite their awkward initial interactions, there is still so much chemistry between them. Is there hope for a second chance between these two after heartbreak, or is it just a little too late?

I loved both Ava and Reed. Reed doesn’t start out the best- he’s a workaholic who seems as icey as the mountain peaks locals ski on, but I warmed up to him quickly. Ava has a great combination of vulnerability and strength. She’s hard working, kind, loving, but she’s been hurt- and she’s not sure she can risk the kind of heartbreak Reed has already caused her. But I love how Reed handles her hesitation- by avid and lovable pursuit. I loved us getting glimpses of their past juxtaposing the adults they’ve become- how they are ready for each other now. Their love story alone is really adorable (though the steam level here was really low, and I really wanted more of it), but we also have a great secondary growth with Reed and his family- him finding ways to repair relationships that have been distant and to fall back in love with his home.

I loved the winter vibes too- the Madigan Mountain setting itself came to life in this story, and it's amazing how a snowy setting warms the heart. A ski resort, mountains, snow- it just had me feeling all cozy. We get great glimpses into the Madigan family- and glimpses of the brothers whose stories we’ve yet to get. I loved the family dynamic. I feel already so immersed in this world and in these characters, even the secondary ones, and I can’t wait for more from this collaboration!
