How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin

5.0

I LOVED this book! The mysteries from the past were far more interesting than the modern mystery, and as such, they took center stage. It's clear from the beginning that solving one will solve the other though, so it doesn't feel too off from a writing perspective.

I loved everything about the slow reveal of the past and meeting those characters in the present. The fact that Annie MAILED A DEAD BODY to her aunt without knowing it is WIIIIILD!!

I also love love LOVE that there was a budding romance! I was sooooo worried that Detective Crane was going to be somehow involved and I wouldn't get my cute romance but all was well and I'm so so happy!

As expected, I was far more interested in the solving of Emily's murder than Great-aunt Francis, but the fact that we got the reveal together was so so perfect! And the fact that Rose was just as obsessed with Francis and Emily had been is soooo good! It's pretty wild that Francis is accidentally everyone's obsession just by being cool!

The resolution was lovely, I appreciated that despite the fact that this was one of those mysteries where everyone has a secret, it wasn't the case that everyone was a horrible person. In the end, Annie decides to stay in Castle Knoll and gains family and friends that are all actually good people!
