whew 😅 what a whirlwind
Isabel Allende is a masterful storyteller. i was ENGROSSED in this generational family saga intertwined with humor, politics, strong female characters, and of course tragedy. it’s magical realism at its finest. if you like your books a little weird and a lot spicy, you will absolutely love the house of the spirits
i’m still reflecting on the meaning and messages woven in here.
- how does one redeem themselves after they realize they’ve lived a long life of displacing their anger on to everyone around them?
- how do we balance the love we have for family with the ethical differences that lie between us?
- in what ways do we carry the decisions of our ancestors within us?
