Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon
3.0
3.5/4. I've been in a reading slump for most of December, so it took me longer than it should have to read a 300-page book. I've always loved Lord John from the Outlander series and wanted him to have his own epic adventures and romance, but this just doesn't compare to the plots in the Outlander books. It was very slow to start and I wasn't that into it, the plot wasn't that interesting, but I did like how it was written true to what I think the historical fiction genre is. I like Diana Gabaldon's writing; this just isn't that strong as far as spin-offs go. But I got the rest of the Lord John books for Christmas, so I'll be continuing the series - if only to see the appearances of some other characters that popped up in Go Tell The Bees in regards to John, and John's character is strong enough on its own to make me not want to give up on his books.
