I've had Fragments waiting to be read for a while, and it just continuously got pushed back to the end of the reading queue. I eventually gave up trying to read it and chose to pick up the audiobook with my credits, which would mean I wouldn't have to sacrifice a book to read this, and I can listen to this one the go.
The Plot
Fragments picks up a few months after Partials. Kira is off by herself, trying to find the cure to save humans and Partials, but also trying to find out more about herself and where she comes from. The group has been divided, with Marcus at home trying to continue his life on Long Island, but thier so called peace is quickly shattered with a Partial invasion, with one intention only, they want Kira. Samm also has his own path to walk before being reunited with Kira, and bringing Heron for company. Together, with the human, Afa, this odd travelling group must travel across the wastelands in order to find the answers they seek.
Fragments was just a good as Partials, but this time we are given even more questions and mysteries. I really love how the author kept me guessing over what was going to happen, and would they ever find what they needed. There were a lot of shock revelations that I really did not see coming, and I was left quite speechless when they were made. Heron may not be my favourite person in this world, but I do like her spunkyness and attitude towards Kira, I feel like it's what keeps Kira going sometimes, reigniting the spark of anger giving her that little push she needs to get her head sorted. Samm was someone who is slowly learning what it means to be human, but he has a few awkward moments along the way which were embarrassing for him, but hilarious for me. There was one moment towards the middle of the book that shocked me, I think in the back of my mind I knew it was going to happen eventually, I just didn't expect it there and then. The way this event was written in to the book also made the event even more shocking, just a normal sentence and then, bamm!!!, you are hit with the news. I had to rewind to make sure I heard it correctly, and once the shock wore off the tears came.
Fragments may have taken me a while to get around to reading, but once I started I found it hard to put it down. It also made me happy that I didn't have to wait for ages for the next book as it's already out.
The Narrator
Julia Whelan is the narrator for this audiobook, and I do like how she portrays the characters. I think some had voices that were too similar in tone, but as they were with different groups it wasn't too hard to figure out who was who. Julia does a great job of adding to the tension, but also making other moments funny, or more real
Final Verdict
Fragments is my favourite book so far out of the series and I am really looking forward to seeing how it all ends.
