Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon

5.0

ugh a second 5 star read?????? i'm being spoiled and cannot complain.

this is my first rachel lynn solomon book and i am about to binge her entire backlog because i am OBSESSED with her writing.

but to focus on this book: it feels so empowering to read about a female character who, though might not have all her shit together, is strong in a lot of ways, especially comfortable in her sexuality is refreshing. i like that a good portion of the book is spent educating the main characters, and the readers, on the range of mental health and female anatomy.

like noemie and chandler, the sex education i received was abysmal. a lot of what i know and continue to learn about sexuality is of my own research and what i choose to look up on my own -- growing up in sheltered religious upbringings and an environment that shamed young women about sex and identities relating to it, it's very comforting to read that, even if they're fictional, i'm not the only person who had questions well into their adulthood.

also the attention to OCD in regards to our male lead is handled so patiently, and in detail, it sparks an even bolder conversation. the lightness surrounding OCD that diminishes its severity in society is alarming, which is why i think it's important to include it in mainstream media, like books.

all in all, this was an easy five star read. you WILL be hearing from me again, rachel lynn soloman (said lovingly, not as a threat i promise)
