The Arrangement by Adriana Locke
4.0
Chloe has known her boss since she was a child. He’s the older brother of her childhood friends, but with a 10+ year age gap between them, she didn’t really get to know him well when she was young. Now in her twenties, she harbors a longstanding crush on him but doesn’t really expect anything to come from it.
When Jason saw Chloe at a coffee shop all grown-up a few years ago, he knew he wanted her in his life. She’s been working for him ever since. They’re friends, but despite his feelings, they’ve never taken things further.
He wants to be married and have children but his brothers don’t believe him. They bet that he can’t get married and stay married for at least six months, wagering a high sum that will go to charity at the end of bet. When Chloe hears the amount, she realizes that a marriage of convenience to her hot boss may be just what she and her grandmother need to get back on their feet.
It’s just a temporary arrangement between two friends, right? And if one of the benefits is that she gets to sleep with him as part of the six-month marriage, who is she to say, “No”? (He is very adamant that she gets to make that decision, by the way.)
At a glance:
- Billionaire romance
- Workplace (boss/employee)
- Age gap
- Friends to lovers
- Marriage of convenience
- Longterm pining
- He falls first
- Former military
- A bit of a Cinderella story (rags-to-riches)
I liked this one. It’s a quick read, but you can feel the chemistry and affection between Jason and Chloe develop into something deeper. There are some emotional ups and downs but nothing too overwhelmingly heavy, and his siblings and her grandmother bring some humor and levity to the book, too.
There’s also some nice steam. The attraction between these two has been building for years.
This is the second book in a series but can be read as a standalone.
I enjoyed the dual narration by Amy McFadden and Sebastian York. Amy McFadden makes Chloe bright and approachable, and Sebastian York’s deep voice works perfectly for Jason.
