Okay what the actual fuck kind of ending is that?! I was literally just thinking how vague it seemed that we have no idea if vampires exist outside of this shithole Texas town and if so how many, and how the HVIC (head vamp in charge) ended up here. America is but a blip on the world’s radar as far as age of countries’ existence, and I just can’t believe that the actual oldest living (unliving?) vamp holds court here.

But then we end on that note? After they were called for help? What’s the saying “the road to hell is paved in good intentions”? Sheesh. I wasn’t prepared.

Overall the book was solid. Claire is a smart 16 year old kid who was bumped forward a few times and is a freshman in college. She’s being bullied at the dorms though when she decides to find a place to rent away from there, despite having no job or money (this is not resolved in book 1 either). And then she learns that the whole town is infested with vamps and everyone knows. And all because a friend agrees to let one of the bloodsuckers feed on him twice, she decides to just take them all on? Crazy. Well not like head to head bc she’s a scared kid but she wants to find this thing they’re been searching for for centuries, which is just as crazy bc well, CENTURIES. So of course she finds it…

Anyway I’ll keep reading but I was hoping for more. Granted it’s a short ass book, which is going to destroy my StoryGraph stats on books over 500 pages lol, but maybe it’ll continue to build as we go.
