A Tale of Two Cities
by Charles Dickens
What an ending!
I don't know how I made it through high school, college, and a graduate degree without ever being asked to read a Dickens book. I have several on my shelf, and decided that it was time for me to read one.
This book wasn't what I expected in two main ways.
First, it was harder to read than I thought it would be. I didn't always understand everything that was going on, especially in the longer descriptive sections. My reading speed was slower.
Second, it was more interesting than I expected. I have heard so much about Dickens, but having never read his books, I think I got it into my head that they would be complex and mundane. This book has fewer characters than I expected, and they are more interesting. I really enjoyed the last half of the book, and I loved the last 50 pages.
I will certainly be reading more Dickens soon.
