The otherworldly relationship of Emma and John continues in this story and it moves in odd directions. John's health continues to decline and Emma's powers continue to grow. I was curious to see how Emma would transform and while her spiritual self (I use this term for lack of a better one) is pretty cool, I am finding Emma, the perfectly normal human woman to be domineering and shrewish. I detest the character of Emma's father. He is demeaning and emotionally abusive in my opinion. And worse, this wretched father character does not play into any importance in the plot. I did not like this book as much as the first.
