This was the first Crichton book I read after the Jurassic Park novels, which was after a few years. It was also the first book I read after years of not reading. In both cases, this was a great choice. It showed me that Micheal Crichton was a great writer when not telling stories about dinosaurs and proved to me that I like reading even when it's not about superheroes and raptors.
The parts of this book that rail against global warming are fascinating stuff and I love how well Crichton defends his points. How much is viable is up in the air for me and I've tried comparing fact to fiction, but the debate is so heated I wouldn't know how to start.
As a thriller, this book has some great moments, especially the car chase along the river as the heroes are attacked by controlled lightning.
A great book with a not so great ending.
