This was a truly unique take on a thriller. A gay couple is brutally killed in Virginia. Their fathers, who were previously unaccepting of their queerness, decide to lean into their shady pasts and go on a vengeance mission to find out who killed their sons and why. And to make them pay.
This book explored race in the rural south and the intersectionality of queerness against this backdrop. This mission brings more than just vengeance to the MCs, but also a measure of new tolerance and understanding.
What I didn’t expect was how dark and gruesome this book got. I’d definitely give a trigger warning for violence and gore. And it got a bit tedious/slow at times. But the originality made up for that, and I’d still definitely recommend this for thriller fans who are looking for a new concept of the genre.
