A terrible start to one of the best stories ever written. ToG was a really poorly written book, but I guess we should cut SJM some slack since it was her first book.

Writing
The writing in this book had me cringing so often, I stopped counting after a while. The way the characters spoke and their thoughts were so painful to read sometimes that it made everythhing else, even the good things, look bad. Not only was SJM’s writing style cringe, it was also super cliche. Idk how to explain how the WRITING, not (just) the plot, was cliche but yeah, it was…There are some good things about the writing thoughh..Like the beautiful descriptions of the settings that enchanted me or the emotion in some of the scenes that made me cry so many times (blame the crying on it being a reread for me and allll the foreshadowing)

”you have food in your mouth” he said. She picked it out with a sharp nail
I would've done greaatt without knowing that little detail, thank you very much.

Pace
It was fine, but personally, I would've liked it better if it was faster.

Plot
A biiiig cliche but I think this storyline was important for the other books. Could it have been better? Yes. But I enjoyed it.
Ive got a big problem with the romance though. Love triangle. A really REALLY painful love triangle. Andd I dont mean sad when I say painful. Nope. it was cringy because both the choices are BEST FRIENDS
