As a modern fairytale, this book is very good. I felt invested in all three storylines and the way each narrative was woven together was really clever. The pacing was nearly perfect, with each reveal coming at just the right time. However, as another reader pointed out, it is steeped in white feminism and has some trans-exclusionary overtones. Also I don’t really understand why people are calling this book empowering. It seems to me to be more about trauma and how cycles of abuse can follow women from generation to generation. Personally, I don’t find vivid descriptions of sexual assault and abuse to be empowering. That’s not to say I didn’t find the story enjoyable or compelling (I finished it in just two sittings, which is rare for me), but I would highly recommend reading the trigger warnings before you pick this one up. Best read with a pinch of salt.
