How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie
2.0
dark medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This book was a slog to get through. There were a few plot elements that seemed pointless and for the sake of drama until near the end. The main character was repetitive, hypocritical, full of herself, with occasional gems of insight. There were no meaningful supporting characters to speak of and most of the book was written in a detached, methodical way which suits the character’s perspective but wasn’t for me, especially when the level of detail required some suspension of belief of how good a memory she could have. The chapters were of variable length which made pacing difficult. The ending feels shocking but cold, and while I disliked the character I wish there could be one more murder.
