Alone with You by Aly Martinez
4.0

Alone With You is a tale of refound love after 18 years apart and some of the toughest times imaginable. It's a story which encompasses indescribable grief, PTSD, loss, divorce and mental abuse but somehow manages not to be morbid or overwhelming.

The care, love and affection between the main characters is obvious, even as their history is not and we're still finding out just how they are connected. And the life they choose to build together moving forward is sweet in its simplicity and raw desperation to be together.

I'm not sure I've ever read anything quite like this book - I wouldn't really describe it as a thriller, but there were plenty of moments when past history was unveiled which felt a bit like a thriller 'reveal'. I did find the end all a little saccharin for my taste, though after everything they had faced together I can't say they didn't deserve their perfect happy ever after!
