Ah my favourite Shakespeare play! I decided to re-read this before watching the Jamie Lloyd production of this play, and oh boy did I enjoy the re-read (and the show)! As a romcom lover it just makes me so happy to see within this play the romcom tropes we are so familiar with today (e.g., enemies to lovers, miscommunication, the break-up before the happily ever after). Like wow my man Shakespeare was really out here inventing the romantic-comedy genre and being a messy bitch by making his characters delve into ploys and schemes!
I had studied this play in high school (hence my bias towards it) and it was nice to re-read the dialogue that has somehow been laying dormant in my brain for the past decade. And I just love Beatrice and Benedick's dialogue to one another it's just so witty and fun!
