Brilliant world building. I found myself immersed in the world of 17th Century Amsterdam. Some of the characterisation was very good eg Nella but I felt other characters could have been developed a bit more eg Johannes and Marin. It was disappointing there was no resolution in the plot re the Miniaturist. Although she was the titular character she existed as a shadowy figure in the background and we never found out how she did what she did or why. I can imagine some people getting to the end and thinking “what was the point of all that?” I just managed to stay on the positive side of that myself!
