Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds

4.0

Could've, should've, would've, and all of the consequences if you fulfilled any of those.
Jack has a really great support system Franny is right when he said Jack has everything. But at the first few pages he'd tell us he's a guy of 'almost' and I wonder maybe it's not too fulfilling if you have everything but not one something great. Maybe each of us wants that one great thing to latch on to, to make what is enjoyable and more bearable.
Angie Thomas in her blurb said Jack is the hero we've been waiting for. I'm still first few pages in (well, after the prologue) and I agreed. Jack is so charming and so witty that I think very few writers were able to capture. A down on his luck protagonist who is not the heartthrob and quite the introvert but is smart and a nerd; this have been a male protagonist in a love story ever, I feel. But the writing here by Justin Reynolds, I don't know. I can't quite figure it out yet. But how Jack conversed (and narrated) with Kate on that icky stairs.. he made Jack so charming and witty but not too much and not condescending. And Jack's relationship with Franny, I like that. Rarely were two male be vulnerable towards each other especially between Black and Afro-Latino. It's not just as brothers but bestfriends.
