I get why it’s a classic, especially how it explores the historical context of that era. It’s definitely an interesting book to write about race and class, etc. But the ending was not very good, and Tom Sawyer’s presence really takes away from the narrative. I also didn’t enjoy the endless environment descriptions.

Moderate: Alcoholism, Child abuse, Death, Gun violence
Minor: Animal cruelty, Death of parent
