There are things I really enjoyed about this book, and others that just didn't work for me.
As a former preschool teacher, the overly smart small child thing rarely works for me.

Also, all of the character development seemed to happen to everyone except our main character. While it's totally true that everyone else needed to catch up to Elizabeth, I found it hard to relate to a character who didn't change or grow in any way (except taking up rowing), for years.

I was very invested in the story in the first half, but became less and less so as the book went on, because she felt stagnant to me.

Still, I blew through it, and without these qualms this could have been a five-star read for me.
