Thanks so much to the author for the ARC of this one!

What a wonderful debut! I absolutely loved the incorporation of Aztec/Mexica mythology. It gave off Hunger Games vibes, yet it was so unique. I cannot wait for book two!
The Tournament of Heirs is a very slow build in my opinion. We start the book with introductions to our main characters - Metztli and Acalan - who are siblings and heirs to the House of Life. While I did enjoy getting a glimpse into their home life and preparations for the tournament, I don't think we needed to see as much as we did. A few important things are mentioned during this part, but I think the pacing would have been better for me if we got into the action sooner.
Once were inside the pyramid and the tournament began.... WOW. The story moved fast. It felt like a different story than the first 300 pages - and I mean this as a good thing. I was so invested in seeing how our characters adapted to this new environment. I loved Xuki. I loved how more and more was revealed.
And that ending! Holy cliffhanger. I need the next book now.
If you enjoy fantasy and want a unique story, this is one to check out when it releases on October 22nd! You'd be supporting an indie author too :)
